Learning Outcome 5 & 6
In the beginning of the semester I had no clue how to write a paper in MLA format. In high school I was not taught how to write in certain formats. This class has helped me understand and be able to write in other formats including MLA. A major part of the MLA format that I learned was to cite my sources in-text and on a work cited page. This semester I have learned in sentence-level errors as well. I understand how to use punctuation in my essays better. Before the semester I would either not use punctuation or when I did, I would use it in the wrong way or wrong spot. For an example in my Big Data Project I wrote, Terry further explains that, “HIPAA/HITECH primarily relies on a confidentiality model,” (Protecting Patient Privacy in the Age of Big Data, Nicolas Terry). This shows my use of commas, quotation marks, and parenthesis as well as how I learned to do in-text citations. In this semester I have learned a lot to help me become a better writer and learning the MLA format has changed the way I write. This format works great for essays because it is great at directing one’s’ focus to the topic with the information of sources.
